What we collect

We collect only what you choose to give us through a form on this site:

• Newsletter and community forms — your name, email, and, if you add them, your phone, town, ZIP code, areas of interest, occupation, the time or skills you can offer, and any message.
• Contact form — your name, email, optional phone, the subject and your message.
• Event RSVPs — your name, email, optional phone, the event, the number of guests, and whether you would like to help.

If you accept analytics cookies, we also receive general information about how the site is used, such as which pages are visited, the kind of device and the approximate region. It is not tied to your name.

How we use it

We use what you send to reply to you, to send the updates you asked for, to plan events, to match offers of help with what is needed, and to understand how the site is being used so we can improve it. We do not sell or rent your information, and we do not share it for anyone else's marketing.

Services that help run this site

A few outside services handle information on our behalf or load when you use certain parts of the site. Each has its own privacy policy.

• Netlify hosts the site and stores form submissions.
• Google Analytics measures site use, and only if you accept analytics cookies.
• Donorbox and its payment partners provide the giving form on the Donate page and process gifts. We receive your name, contact details and gift amount; we never see your card details.
• SavvyCal provides scheduling on the Contact page when you book a conversation.
• Google Fonts supplies the typefaces. Your browser requests them from Google, which sees your IP address as with any web request.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it or to protect someone's safety.

Cookies

Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. This site sets none of its own. Your cookie choice is remembered in your browser's local storage so we do not ask on every page.

• Analytics cookies (optional). If you accept, Google Analytics sets cookies named _ga and _ga_…, which last up to two years and tell repeat visits apart. Nothing from Google Analytics loads until you accept, and if you later decline we remove those cookies.
• Giving and scheduling. The Donorbox form on the Donate page and the SavvyCal scheduler on the Contact page may set their own cookies so that giving and booking work and stay secure. These are controlled by those services.

Change your cookie choice

You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site works without them.

How long we keep it

We keep what you send for as long as it is useful for the reason you gave it, and remove it when you ask. Newsletter details are kept until you unsubscribe.

Your choices

You can ask to see, correct or delete what we hold about you, or to stop hearing from us, at any time. Write to connect@fiveheartsva.org and we will take care of it.

Children

This site is written for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us their details, please tell us and we will delete them.
